Applicants residing in the states of Karnataka and in Maharashtra, Gujarat and
Goa should continue to make their applications to the Irish Consulates in
Bangalore and Mumbai, respectively.
The Ireland Visa Application Centres will be operated by VFS India Private
Limited. VFS will be responsible for accepting applications and providing
advice and guidance. All applications will continue to be assessed by the visa
officers at the Irish Embassy in New Delhi.
It is hoped that the new visa service will encourage Indians to look at Ireland
as a possible tourist destination; many are already travelling to Britain and
it is only a short hop across the Irish sea to Ireland. Tourism Ireland has
appointed representatives in India with effect from 1st February 2004.
There are already in excess of 1,500 Indian students studying in Ireland and it
is hoped that this trend will continue and that the processing of student visa
applications will be made easier under these new arrangements.
The Embassy of Ireland is committed to providing a quality customer service in
India and the new arrangement with VFS will allow it to provide a more
customer-friendly visa service for applicants. With the Ireland and UK visa
application centres housed under one roof applicants can apply for Irish and
British visas at the same time.
